Summer Internship at ThingM
ThingM is a new company specializing in the design of consumer electronics by embedding small computers and networking into everyday objects. We aim to help consumers solve problems and to create new ways through which people can express themselves.
We are looking for a summer intern to help us visualize our ideas with renderings, sketches and models. You will work directly with the two company founders, Mike Kuniavsky (interaction designer, researcher and author of "Observing the User Experience") and Tod E. Kurt (electronics/robotics developer on multiple NASA deep space missions and author of "Hacking Roomba"). Our small team, including you, will develop several cutting edge device prototypes over the summer. You will have a lot of creative freedom, gain experience designing for cutting edge technology, and be able to include all your work in your portfolio.
We are looking for someone with strong CAD (Solidworks, Vectorworks or equivalent) experience, skilled at rapid rendering, and the ability to take an idea and develop it quickly without direct supervision. Model-making experience very desirable. Interface/interaction design or product design experience a plus.
You will also have to be comfortable with working in a small virtual company (which means that our San Francisco and Pasadena offices are in our homes).
15-20 hours per week, $15-20/hr depending on experience and skills, mid-May through mid-August.
More information about ThingM can be found on thingm.com, including examples of products we're in the process of developing.
